Coffee Spinach Smoothie

Coffee is one of the most ancient drinks known to mankind. It’s a drink that hasn’t been immune to modern dietary tendencies such as food processing and additives. The ancient superfood, “raw coffee beans and hot water”, turned into instant coffees or cappuccinos, artificial sweetened drinks, flavored coffee beans, and other unhealthy processed forms.

Thus, I created this Coffee Spinach Smoothie recipe: To connect the energizing stimulant benefits of unprocessed coffee, with the nutritional rewards of green smoothies. This recipe is 100% plant-based and vegan.

Ingredients: For One Serving

 

  • Coffee – 1 cup
  • Brown sugar/xylitol/dates
  • 1/4 cup of plant-based Milk
  • Small cup of Ice
  • 1 Banana
  • 50 grams of Spinach

 

 

Coffee Spinach Smoothie Directions

 

  1. Make a cup of coffee (+- 250ml). Whichever type you prefer, including decaf. You could even use an automatic espresso machine to make coffee for this recipe.
  2. Add your sweetener to the coffee, preferably not white sugar nor artificial sweeteners like Aspartame. Try Xylitol or Brown Sugar, instead. Otherwise, leave out the sweetener and simply blend in a few dates to the smoothie.
  3. Add the coffee to the Blender.
  4. Then add a quarter-cup of plant-based milk. I used Almond milk.
  5. Now add a small cup full of ice to improve consistency and to turn the coffee into iced-coffee.
  6. Add one banana.
  7. Next, add around 50 grams of spinach. Exact quantities are not required.
  8. You could add more dates or honey, agave syrup, sweet molasses, etc, to the final smoothie ingredients (depending how sweet you prefer).
  9. Blend everything together.
  10. Enjoy.

You now have a healthier alternative to the morning cup of coffee – a green coffee spinach smoothie.
